CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (KWWL) — Anticipation is already building for the 2019 Outback Bowl as the Iowa Hawkeye’s prepare to take on the Mississippi State Bulldogs in Tampa, Florida.
Many Iowa fans are already flocking for tickets. They’re looking to trade in winter coats for short sleeved Hawkeye gear.
Merchandise is already in high demand, before it has even hit the shelf said Black and Gold Shop Manager, Ben Welper, “Oh Yes, we’ve had a quiet a few people come in and a lot of phone calls.”
Duane Jasper, CEO of Travel Leaders, the agency handling fan packages through the University of Iowa Athletics said packages are selling out.
“It’s still a warm destination so we are seeing a lot of enthusiasm for the trip. We have our 4 night package is sold out. we are very close to selling out the 3 night day packages, I think we have about 23 seats left,” said Jasper.
Package prices very depending on what’s included and start around $900.
Despite this being the third time in six season that the Hawkeyes traveled to Tampa for a bowl game, fans are still flocking to get tickets and rooms booked fast. Something that’s a must said Jasper, “If you book late the most expensive part is finding a hotel, in a decent area where you’ll find lots of other Iowa fans because certainly the hotels in Tampa recognize that there is a demand and prices go up.”
Travel packages aren’t the only thing selling out. Game day gear is always a big hit and this year is no exception said Welper, “It doesn’t really matter what bowl we are going to… hawk fans will always buy it, they make great collectors items.”
Whether it’s game day apparel or game day seats, the experts say snag them early.
