Woman from Greene dies in Cerro Gordo County head-on crash

The Iowa State Patrol say two eastern Iowans were involved in a crash in Cerro Gordo County on Monday.

According to a report on the crash from the Patrol, 78-year-old Darlene Keifer was pronounced dead at the scene. Patrollers say a car driven by Keifer was traveling east in the westbound lane of Highway 18 around 11:30 a.m. on Monday, when it collided head-on with a cargo van driven by Blaine Freeman. Freeman’s vehicle was traveling west in the westbound lane. The accident happened near mile marker 150 on Highway 18.

The Iowa State Patrol says Keifer is from Greene, while Freeman is from Elk Run Heights. Keifer was pronounced dead at the scene by a state medical examiner, while the  54-year-old Freeman was taken to a nearby hospital with injuries that are believed to be minor.
