Linn County authorities searching for driver after chase

The Linn County Sheriff’s Office is looking for a driver who led deputies on a high speed chase.

In a release, Linn County Sheriff Brian Gardner said the department was told to attempt to locate a 2003 BMW that was leaving Jones County and coming into Linn County on Monticello Road.

Gardner said the Jones County Sheriff asked them to stop the car and hold the driver due to an incident investigation by the department.

However, when Linn County deputies attempted to stop the car around noon Friday, August 17, the driver refused to pull over and reached speeds that deputies believed were too fast to be safe.

Deputies slowed down in hopes of getting the driver of the BMW to slow down as he continued on County Home Road, but they lost sight of the car when the driver turned onto Norman Drive.

The car was found unoccupied behind a building in the 3100 block on Norman Drive and the plates were determined to have been stolen from Cedar Rapids.

Search dogs were brought in, but authorities have yet to locate the driver.
