A 25-year-old man is facing charges after witnesses tell sheriff’s deputies he touched two young girls inappropriately at the Swisher Fun Days festival last week.
John Schulte now faces two counts of indecent contact with a child, according to the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office. Deputies say the Des Moines man was originally charged with two counts of simple assault, along with a public intoxication charge.
Investigators in the case say witnesses told them they saw Schulte lift the two girls (ages four and 10) above his head, and then make contact between his face and their groin areas. The girls told investigators that Schulte said he loved them and would take care of them during the encounter, which allegedly happened on July 28.
Witnesses told investigators that Schulte picked up the 4-year-old and acted like he was going to leave with her after he was confronted about his alleged actions. Deputies say that a witness was able to take the girl away from Schulte, and returned her to her mother.
Online jail records show Schulte was booked into the Johnson County Jail following the alleged encounter.
