Cedar Rapids police investigating fireworks incident

Cedar Rapids Police responded to a report of fireworks being shot off in an area on the NW side of Cedar Rapids Sunday morning.

When officers arrived on scene around 4:19 a.m., a fire had started in a trash container in the driveway of a house at K Avenue and 11th Street NW.

Fire crews were able to extinguish the fire from the trash can.

Police say they saw flames coming from a structure about a block away at 1310 10th Street NW, while they were responding to the trash can fire. Firefighters arrived to find a fully-detached garage with a 2012 Honda Civic inside that was completely on fire. The total loss was estimated at $30,000.

Authorities are continuing to investigate the incident. Police say they had received additional reports of fireworks thrown onto a front porch as well as a firework thrown against a glass door in the area.
