Dubuque arson suspect wanted to be arrested

Police say a man claiming to have started a fire in his Dubuque apartment, wanted to be arrested.

Dubuque police and fire were called out Wednesday night for a report of a structure fire at 1004 Bluff Street. Once they arrived, Mathew Voseberg came forward and claimed he started the fire in his apartment. Smoke could be seen coming out of a second story window.

According to court documents, Voseberg allegedly set fire to a pile of his own clothing in his apartment. Voseberg would later tell police that he wanted to be somewhere he could get "three hots and a cot."

Voseberg denied using any accelerants to start the fire. No injuries have been reported.

Voseberg was taken into police custody and is charged with first degree arson.
