Family hopes “heartless coward” is found soon in hit-and-run death of 14-year-old

A funeral service has been set for Kaiden Estling of Maynard.

The 14-year-old was hit by a car while riding his moped just south of Fayette Thursday evening.

He lost control and went into a ditch, the driver took off.

Estling was reported dead at the scene.

His family has created a Go Fund Me page to help pay for his funeral costs.

On the page Estling’s aunt writes, "Someone struck him from behind and left him there. We are all praying that this heartless coward is found soon. Kaiden would have started his freshman year this fall. He had just gotten his football jersey for this falls season and was waiting for practice to start. He had a huge heart and one of the biggest smiles I’ve seen."

Estling’s visitation is scheduled from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Monday at the Jamison-Schmitz Funeral Home in Maynard as well as from 9:30 to 10:30 Tuesday morning at West Central High School.

His funeral will be Tuesday at the school starting at 10:30 a.m.

Kaiden was born in Waterloo and would have been a freshman at West Central High School this year.

Police are asking any potential witnesses in this case to come forward.

Anyone with information is urged to call the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office at 563-422-6067.
