Traffic pattern to change on Iowa 58 and Viking Road

Traffic in both directions will be changing to a head-to-head pattern for work on the Iowa 58 and Viking Road interchange project.

Crews will start shifting lanes tonight at 9 and it will go through the morning hours tomorrow.

This new traffic pattern will be in place until late November.

The speed limit will also be reduced from 55 mph to 45 mph during that time.

The change could cause traffic backups and delays during peak travel times. Drivers are encouraged to find alternative routes to avoid the traffic.

Alternate routes to avoid Iowa 58 for local traffic would be on Hudson Road or Cedar Heights Drive. Through traffic can use U.S. 218, U.S. 63 south of U.S. 218 or Hudson Road.

The Iowa DOT reminds drivers to drive with caution, obey the posted speed limit and other signs in the work area. Traffic fines for moving violations are at least double in work zones.
