Waterloo teacher using Tools for School award to make book boxes

Mandi Severson is an extended core teacher at Kittrell Elementary in Waterloo.

She won this month’s Cedar Valley Tools for Schools and was awarded $1,000.

Severson says she is going to use the money to make book boxes for students. The book boxes each have different themes that go along with the nonfiction and fiction books in them. They help students learn how to read and write.

The Cedar Valley ‘Tools for Schools’ program is a partnership between KWWL, The University of Iowa Community Credit Union, and Kimball and Beecher.

It awards one eastern Iowa teacher every month.
