State Representative and former Cedar Rapids TV journalist, Ashley Hinson, looks to unseat first term

Congresswoman Abby Finkenauer in Iowa’s first Congressional District next year.

Hinson has filed Statement of Candidacy papers with the Federal Election Commission, though the FEC website does not yet have her listed as an official Candidate for Congress.

The Linn County Republican has served two terms in the Iowa House, representing House District 67 in Linn County. She resides in Marion.

The former KCRG-TV morning news anchor and reporter was first elected to the Iowa House in 2016 and re-elected in 2018.

Locally, Hinson has yet to make an official announcement of her candidacy in the First District for 2020, but she told the Cedar Rapids Gazette, “I think I have a unique skill set in being able to consensus-build and to problem-solve. I have done that by developing relationships with people in the Legislature. I have that drive to continue that on the bigger scale.”
