CEDAR FALLS, Iowa (KWWL) – One teacher wins $1,000 for the first Cedar Valley Tools for Schools award this school year.
Lori Engel is an English teacher at Pete Junior High in Cedar Falls.
Because of her students’ difficulties sitting still while they’re learning, Engel uses rocking chairs in her classroom. However, she only has two right now, and they are in popular demand.
Engel hopes to use the award money to buy more rocking chairs, and possibly some standing desks for her students. She hopes this will give them more options in the classroom and improve their focus.
The Cedar Valley Tools for Schools program is a partnership between KWWL, the University of Iowa Community Credit Union and Kimball and Beecher.
