Black Hawk County Health will hold free youth vaccine event

WATERLOO, Iowa (KWWL) - On Tuesday, July 20th, Black Hawk County Health Department will have a Free Youth Vaccine Event from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m.

It will be held at the Cedar Valley Sportsplex on 300 Jefferson Street. Children ages 12 and up can get a free COVID-19 shot, as well as their booster at the same location on August 10th.

According to data from the department, 58.5% of Black Hawk County residents ages 12 and up have received one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine. However, with the Delta variant circulating in the community, county health officials would like to see more residents get vaccinated.

"Getting vaccinated continues to be the best way to prevent COVID-19 na dit's variants. The health department continues to encourage everyone who is eligible to get vaccinated. If you are on the fence or unsure about whether or not to get vaccinated we encourage you to talk to your family doctor."

Josh Pikora, Disease Surveillance & Investigation Manager

Anyone who receives a vaccine will be provided healthy snacks and a free day pass to the Sportsplex or one of the Waterloo City Pools.

Besides the Youth Vaccine Event, Black Hawk County Health continues to offer the Vaccine Incentive Program.
