Cedar Rapids’ new mini-golf course opens Friday

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (KWWL) -- The Cedar Rapids Parks and Recreation Department is holding a grand opening celebration for their newest mini-golf course.

The new 18-hole mini-golf course, named "Mini Pines," sits next to Twin Pines Golf Course located at 3800 42nd Street NE. The grand opening ceremony will be held from 3:00 to 4:30 Friday. After that, the course will be open for paid play.

The grand opening will feature speakers, a ribbon cutting and an opportunity for people to explore the course. Drawings will be held throughout the event for multiple packages of four rounds of mini golf.

The course will be open Sunday - Thursday from 10 a.m. - 10 p.m. and Friday and Saturday from 10 a.m. - 11 p.m. Hours may vary though depending on the weather.

The cost to play is $8 for adults 19 - 64. $7 for anyone 65 and older. $6 for ages 5 - 18 and $3 for anyone 4 and under. Punch cards for 10 rounds are available for $70 for adults, $60 for seniors and $50 for students. Patio pads with picnic tables are available to rent for parties for $40 per time slot.

Mini Pines was approved by the City Council in July 2020 in an effort to generate more revenue from the City's golf course system. It's estimated the current golf system had a deficit of about $170,000 in fiscal year 2020. The City estimated last year that the yearly net revenue would be around $169,000.
