DUBUQUE, Iowa (KWWL) -- There have been multiple sightings in the past week of a black bear roaming in the Dubuque area.

On Friday, the DuTrac Community Credit Union posted a photo on Facebook of the bear roaming near the bank!

Earlier this week, resident Justin Jansen also spotted a bear along Mud Lake Road at night and caught it on video that he posted on Facebook.

The Iowa Department of Natural Resources (DNR) has said recently there's a good chance a few wandering black bears will come down from the north ahead of the breeding season.

Black bears are native to Iowa. However, the Hawkeye State hasn't had a resident bear population for more than 100 years, the DNR said.

Almost a year ago, in June 2020, a black bear was spotted roaming cornfields near Eldridge, Iowa. That bear was seen traveling across multiple states in the Midwest last summer.
