CARBONDALE, Ill. (KWWL) -- The UNI Panthers are kings of the Missouri Valley Conference once again. The Panthers won pair of events on the final day of the MVC Track and Field Championships, scoring 167.5 points to win a third consecutive outdoor team title. UNI bested second-place Illinois State by just over 13 points.
"I just think they just want to win really bad," said head coach Dave Paulsen, "We've had that success in the past, and they just believe it. It doesn't matter how we have to get that done, they just know how to do that."
The Panthers opened the day with a title from Michael Santi, Eli Hicks, Dan Blocker, and Parker Kiewiet in the 4 x 100 meters. Kiewiet, the former Dike-New Hartford stand-out, anchored the foursome home in a winning time of 40.49 seconds.
UNI also picked up a title in the discus behind Tom Yezek's final throw of 55.76 meters.
