EVANSVILLE, Ind. (KWWL) -- UNI just couldn't figure out Southern Illinois' Sarah Harness on Saturday. The Saluki ace fired a two-hit shut out to take down the Panthers in the Missouri Valley Conference championship game. The win came less than a week after UNI swept SIU in a three-game series.
UNI's Kailyn Packard was strong in the circle but gave up a pair of solo home runs that made up the difference. Elisabeth Huckleberry homered in the fifth, while Jenny Jansen followed it up with her third home run of the tournament in the next frame.
The Panthers were seeking their first automatic NCAA tournament bid in eight years. UNI, ranked 48th in the last RPI, will hold out hope for an at-large bid in Sunday's selection show.
