ANAMOSA, Iowa (KWWL) -- The Wisconsin Department of Corrections is showing its support for staff at the Anamosa State Penitentiary after two staff members were killed by two inmates in a failed escape attempt in March.

The department recently delivered a pair of memorial benches dedicated to Lorena Schulte and Robert McFarland. The benches were part of a "Pay It Forward" campaign by Wisconsin DOC, which also included individualized plaques and more than $2,000 in donations for the impacted families.

They also delivered more than 700 gift bags filled with  things like candy, gum, stress balls and gift cards to Anamosa staff members. The gift bags also included a card with a message from Wisconsin DOC Secretary Kevin Carr.

"I hope these gift bags can offer a small sense of support and comfort in the midst of this tragedy, and serve as a reminder that you are not alone. Your Corrections brothers and sisters across the nation are thinking of you, and praying for solace and peace during this difficult time."
