WATERLOO, Iowa (KWWL) - As we start to creep up on the summer season, event and activities that were canceled last year, will make a comeback this year!
From Irish Fest to Sturgis Falls, My Waterloo Days will be the first local event of the fun, summer season.
Taking up most of downtown Waterloo, Main Street Waterloo will be bringing back live music, food vendors, and family-friendly activities.
Kicking off with the traditional parade on June 7th, there will also be new items on the agenda as well. Like the 4th Street Cruise, there will be a car show this year, and a lip sync battle where voting will take place all week.
Bummed the celebration had to be canceled last year, Main Street Waterloo Executive Director, Jessica Rucker, is excited to bring some normalcy back to the community this summer.
"We're getting a ton of positive feedback, the community is really excited for us to be able to have events this year," Rucker said, "I'm just excited to see people again, and gather with everyone, and celebrate our community."
With recent changes to CDC guidelines, Rucker told KWWL the event will follow those guidelines, no matter what.
"We are going to ask people to wear masks, and try to social distance once you're coming to an event like this it's going to be a little bit difficult," Rucker said, "we're going to do our best, we're going to have the set up so that our lines can be socially distanced, we're going to give everybody the opportunity to social distance."
Rucker also said there will be multiple hand washing and sanitizing areas set up. All volunteers and employees are required to wear masks, unless CDC guidelines change by then.
Rucker also said the majority of the events will be free, except all that occur in Lincoln Park.
My Waterloo Days will start on June 7th, and end on June 13th.
