DUBUQUE, Iowa (KWWL) -- The Community Foundation of Greater Dubuque is hosting its eighth annual 'Great Give Day' on Thursday, May 13.
It's a 24-hour online giving event that brings the community together to celebrate and support local nonprofits in the Dubuque region.
Since 2014, the event has raised more than $2 million for nonprofits. Last year, the campaign collected more than 3,000 gifts and raised nearly $340,000 for area organizations.
The day is open to all nonprofits with endowment funds at the Community Foundation. This year, 181 nonprofits are signed up to participate.
If you're interested in giving back on Thursday, you can visit GreatGiveDay.org to support your favorite nonprofit with gifts of $10 or more. The money will go directly to the organizations, helping them qualify for more than $30,000 in prize money from local corporate sponsors during contests throughout the day.
You must make your donation online with a credit or debit card.
“Great Give Day is a time when the community really rallies together and shows the generosity Iowans are known for. We’re proud to support our region’s strong nonprofits and connect them with its generous donors through this event,” Peter Supple, economic opportunity coordinator at the Community Foundation of Greater Dubuque, said.
There will be a leaderboard reflecting the donations in real-time throughout the day so donors can track the total amount raised.
Hourly prizes will fuel excitement and friendly competition. You can view the prize schedule on the leaderboard at GreatGiveDay.org to see when your donation might help your favorite nonprofit win more prizes.
'Great Give Day' is powered by the Community Foundation of Greater Dubuque and Presenting Sponsor Theisen’s Home*Farm*Auto. It is also sponsored by Dubuque Bank & Trust, Dubuque Screw Products, Dupaco, the Foundation for the Future of Delaware County, Klauer Manufacturing, MidWestOne Bank, and The Vogt Group.
