Iowa Women’s Field Hockey shuts out Maryland in Big Ten quarterfinal

IOWA CITY, Iowa (KWWL) - The Iowa Women's Field Hockey Team playing host to the Big Ten tournament, a tournament that was canceled a year ago.

In the quarterfinal, fifth-seeded Iowa faced off with fourth-seeded Maryland. The last host team to win the Big Ten Tournament was Penn State in 2011.

Striking first on the pitch was Ellie Holley for the Hawkeyes, going up 1-0 just a few minutes into the first period.

Only two minutes later in the first period, freshman Alex Wesneski would get a scoop and score for the Hawkeyes, 2-0.

Only eight minutes to go in the first half, Wesneski again would score off a deflection.

Hawkeyes shut out Maryland, 3-0. The hawkeyes will prepare to face one seeded Michigan.
