Four finalists named in search for Mount Mercy University’s next president


CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (KWWL) -- Mount Mercy University’s Presidential Search Committee has announced four finalists in the search for the university's next president.

  • Kerry Calnan, DBA, is the Vice President of Innovation and Institutional Effectiveness & Associate Professor of Accounting and Finance at Nichols College in Dudley, Massachusetts.
  • Sandra L. Cassady, PhD, is the Vice President for Strategic Initiatives, Dean of the College of Health and Human Services & Professor of Physical Therapy at St. Ambrose University in Davenport.
  • Kimberly Kvaal, EdD, is the Vice President of Finance and Administration, Chief Financial Officer & faculty member at Saint Edward’s University in Austin, Texas.
  • Todd A. Olson, PhD, is the Vice President for Student Affairs at Georgetown University in Washington, D.C.

The candidates will be invited for on-campus visits and open forums the weeks of April 19 and 26. 

The search committee includes members of Mount Mercy’s Board of Trustees, the community, & faculty, staff and student representatives. The committee is chaired by trustee Jeff Cannon ’82. AGB Search, a higher education search firm, is assisting the committee.

The next president will replace Dr. Robert Beatty, who resigned last September after less than 3 months on the job. Beatty was named Mount Mercy's 10th president at the end of February, 2020 and assumed his duties as president on July 1.

Dr. Tim Laurent is currently serving as interim president. Dr. Laurent has served as Mount Mercy’s Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs since 2018.
