18-year-old charged in Cedar Rapids armed robbery

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (KWWL) — Police are reporting an armed robbery that occurred in the 1600 block of C Ave. NW on April 8th at 12:20 p.m.

Officers arrived on scene and spoke with a 24-year-old male victim for information. The suspect, 18-year-old Muzuri Kevin Yenge, allegedly got into the victim's vehicle and took the victim's wallet. Yenge showed a gun and ran from the scene when confronted by the victim.

A witness provided more information at 18th St. and B Ave. NW who said he saw a person matching the suspect description running south on 19th St. NW.

Eventually, this led officers to arrive at Christ Church Presbyterian on 1st Ave. NW. Yenge ran around the front of the building and tried to hide behind an AC unit. Officers managed to apprehend the individual with no issues.

Muzuri Yenge has been arrested for Robbery-1st Degree and Burglary-1st Degree. He has been sent to the Linn County Correction Center.

Officers did manage to find the victim's wallet in suspect possession. A handgun was recovered as well.
