CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (KWWL) -- A Cedar Rapids-based startup that helps communities connect with local businesses is expanding to new areas in eastern Iowa.
The "deetz" app which launched in September of 2020, will be introduced in the Mount Vernon-Lisbon area on April 12. The app shows users what's happening around them in real-time.
Users can contribute to the map by dropping pins where events are going on. They can earn points that can be redeemed for discounts.
Because the app constantly refreshes, businesses can use it to promote specials or deals.
"Everything on the app expires in 24 hours so when you get on the app you can be super confident that what you're seeing is what's happening around town right now," deetz co-founder Raghul Ethiraj said.
Deetz will be the platform partner for the #MyMountVernon initiative starting this summer that hopes to support local businesses and communities.
Content for deetz in Mount Vernon-Lisbon will be submitted by businesses through an automated daily phone call or text message.
“We’re super excited to launch into the Mount Vernon-Lisbon area since it’s so close to our home base in Cedar Rapids and has such a thriving arts and main street scene,” says Raghul Ethiraj said.
The app just recently expanded to Decorah and aims to be in 20 cities in Iowa by the end of 2021, including Dubuque, Iowa City, and Waterloo.
