UPDATE (4/9): Following an investigation, the Cedar Rapids Fire Department has determined that the fire at the UnityPoint Health System Services building on Wednesday evening was unintentional.

The investigation determined that the fire originated above the drop-down ceiling on the second floor, where utilities were located, but CRFD says there was no indication that the fire was incendiary.

There were no injuries, but the building has sustained significant damage.

UPDATE: Authorities say no injuries are being reported after the fire at the UnityPoint Health System Services building.

UnityPoint officials say no medical records or patient data was affected. Most of the employees were working remotely due to the pandemic.

Authorities say by 7:15 p.m. portions of the roof had started to sag.

Fire crews are expected to be on the scene well into the night as they continue fire suppression efforts.

The building is owned by TBD Investments, LLC and is being leased by UnityPoint Health. The fire department indicates the building is a total loss.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

ORIGINAL STORY: CEDAR RAPIDS (KWWL) - Cedar Rapids firefighters are on scene of a major fire at an office building in northeast Cedar Rapids.

Crews were called to a multi-story office building at 3851 River Ridge Dr. NE just after 6 p.m., at least half of the second floor was engulfed in flames.

CRFD said on Facebook that at least two employees were on site when the fire started but all were able to exit the building safely.

A public safety official for the City of Cedar Rapids says the building is owned by UnityPoint Health.

Our photographer on the scene said crews were still battling the fire around 7:15 p.m. but it appeared most of the large flames had been put out.

This is a developing story and will be updated.
