Governor Kim Reynolds Friday signed the new “constitutional carry” law.
The law essentially makes having a gun permit optional in Iowa.
At the bill signing, the Governor said, "Today I signed legislation that protects the 2nd Amendment rights of Iowa’s law-abiding citizens while still preventing the sale of firearms to criminals and other dangerous individuals."
Opponents of the new law say it will make Iowans less safe, by weakening background checks.
Iowa Speaker of the House, Pat Grassley, talks about that and other key issues for this week's edition of The Steele Report.
Speaker Grassley will also appear on The Steele Report in two weeks to discuss the final weeks of the current legislative session.
