EVANSDALE, Iowa (KWWL) - Whether it's in their homes or pout on the town, Iowans across the state are starting to do some spring cleaning.
Unfortunately, you can probably spot some type of trash lying about. However third grader, Dallas Schultz, is trying to put an end to that by cleaning up his neighborhood.
"When my teacher told me about like oil spills, trash, everywhere around the world it made me feel why not pick it up," Schultz said.
Every morning before school, Dallas grabs his backpack, some plastic bags, and picks up any trash he can find!
Starting this mission about two months ago, his mother, Deiryana Schultz, said she actually didn't know about this at first.
"I actually got a message from his teacher letting me know that Dallas showed up to school one day with some garbage in his hands," Deiryana said, "and he asked if he could please throw it away in the trash can."
Although caring for the environment may seem like a small thing for a third grader to worry about, Deiryana believes people could learn a thing or two from her son.
"He's only 9 years old, and he cares about the environment and I think we all should," Deiryana said.
Dallas said he hopes his actions can inspire others to think twice before walk past trash.
"One person can make one big difference," Schultz said, "pick it up, throw it in a trash can, don't be lazy and just do it."
Dallas' last stop is at Poyner Elementary School. When the school found out about his endeavors, they decided to help him out by throwing his trash bags away into their school dumpsters.
