Mar. 5: Iowa approaches 210,000 people fully vaccinated against COVID-19

EDITOR’S NOTE: The daily numbers that we report do not line up with the numbers the state is reporting for each day. Every day at 10 a.m. we take the previous day’s numbers from 10 a.m. and subtract them with the current numbers from the state at 10 a.m. Rather than reporting a day behind, we wish to give you the most updated information. For Black Hawk and Linn Counties, we are reporting numbers from their county COVID-19 websites. For Johnson and Dubuque counties, we are reporting numbers from the state’s website.

(KWWL) — There were 507 new, confirmed cases from 10 a.m. Thursday to 10 a.m. Friday, according to the state’s dashboard, bringing the state’s total number of cases to 338,669.

The state’s website says that of the 338,669 people who have tested positive, 319,004 have recovered. This is 430 more recoveries than what the state reported Thursday.

The state’s death toll is 5,549, which is 13 more than reported yesterday.

Subtracting the number of recoveries (319,004) and the number of deaths (5,549) from the total number of cases (338,669) shows there are currently 14,116 active positive cases in the state.

As of Friday morning, there were 39 patients hospitalized in Iowa within the last 24 hours and the total number of hospitalizations is 176, a decrease from 184 hospitalized the day before. Of those, 39 are in the ICU (same as yesterday), and 9 are on ventilators (down from 11).

In Iowa, there were 3,195 people tested in the last 24 hours, and a total of 1,571,999 people have been tested for COVID-19.

According to the state’s COVID-19 vaccine dashboard, 740,526 total doses have been administered to Iowa residents and 208,429 individuals have completed the series, which is 12,345 more than Thursday. You can view the dashboard for more data. You can find more vaccine information and stories here.

BLACK HAWK COUNTY

As of 10 a.m. Friday, the Black Hawk COVID-19 dashboard is showing 21 new cases since 10 a.m. Thursday, leaving a total of 15,987 cases. There have been 21 additional recoveries, leaving a total of 14,237. There have been zero additional deaths, leaving a total of 293 deaths. In Black Hawk County, 8,099 residents have been fully vaccinated.

LINN COUNTY

As of 10 a.m. Friday, the Linn County COVID-19 dashboard is showing 18 new cases since 10 a.m. Thursday, leaving a total of 19,498 cases. There have been 26 additional recoveries, leaving a total of 17,990 recoveries. There have been zero additional deaths, leaving a total of 328 deaths in the county. There are 15 patients currently hospitalized in the county. In Linn County, 16,793 residents have been fully vaccinated.

JOHNSON COUNTY

According to the state’s dashboard at 10 a.m. Friday, there are 8 new positive cases reported in Johnson County since 10 a.m. Thursday. This brings the total to 13,138 reported cases. There have been a total of 12,531 recoveries, 13 more reported than yesterday. There have been zero additional deaths, leaving a total of 75. In Johnson County, 16,978 residents have been fully vaccinated.

DUBUQUE COUNTY

According to the state’s dashboard at 10 a.m.Friday, there have been 16 additional positive cases reported in Dubuque County since 10 a.m. Thursday. This brings the total to 12,435 reported cases. There have been 12 additional recoveries reported, leaving a total of 11,767. There have been zero additional deaths reported, leaving a total of 195. In Dubuque County, 8,572 residents have been fully vaccinated.
