ANAMOSA, Iowa (KWWL) — The Iowa Department of Corrections is reporting that an inmate allegedly assaulted two staff members at the Anamosa State Penitentiary this morning.
At 7:55 a.m. on Feb. 22nd, a correctional officer was punched in the face by an inmate. The officer used pepper spray to stop the inmate, but the inmate persisted by using aggressive behavior.
More staff arrived to help restrain the inmate causing one of the responding officers to receive a hand injury. The inmate was eventually restrained.
Both injured officers were treated and released from the local hospital for minor injuries. The inmate suffered no major injuries.
The incident remains under investigation.
