Officer identified after shooting stabbing suspect in Cedar Rapids

UPDATE: 3/2/21 -- The Cedar Rapids police officer involved in a February 20 shooting has been identified as Kyzer Moore.

The stabbing suspect, shot by Moore, died three days after the incident.

Moore is a three-year and six-month veteran of the Cedar Rapids Police Department.

Moore voluntarily interviewed with the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation and is on paid administrative leave pending the investigation.

Upon completion of the investigation, Moore's interview and investigative facts will be forwarded to the Linn County Attorney.


CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (KWWL) — Cedar Rapids Police have identified the victim in a deadly stabbing Saturday morning as Katrina Latrese Brinson, 34 of Cedar Rapids.

The Iowa Office of the State Medical Examiner did an autopsy on Brinson today, ruling her death as a homicide and cause of death was due to sharp-edged trauma.

A second woman, 32, was also stabbed during this incident and sent to a local hospital for being treatment and release. The continuing investigation includes her assault by the suspect.

Currently, the name of the suspect shot by a CRPD officer is being withheld (pending suspect family notification). The suspect remains in critical condition and hospitalized.

The name of the CRPD officer will be released after the officer's interview with the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation.
