CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (KWWL) -- A pair of MediaQuest billboards are highlighting Willie Ray's Q Shack owner Willie Fairley who has rooted himself as a pillar in the Cedar Rapids community.
Fairley has recently teamed up with Brandon Jackson, founder of Cedar Rapids nonprofit Dreeam Sports, and journeyed down to Texas to help feed those in need amidst the state's weather crisis.
Fairley gave out thousands of free meals in Cedar Rapids following the derecho in August and hopes to continue that in Texas.
One of the Cedar Rapids billboards reads "Leading By Example, Thank you Willie Ray" and the other one says "Be a Willie Not a Ted."
This is an apparent jab at Texas Senator Ted Cruz, who has been criticized by members of both parties in the past week for planning a vacation to Mexico while thousands in his home state struggle. Cruz has since called the decision a mistake.
KWWL reached out to MediaQuest Outdoor, who said they cannot disclose who paid for the billboards.
