CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (KWWL) -- Willie Ray's Q Shack, known for extreme generosity and giving within the Cedar Rapids community, is hitting the road to help those in need in Texas.
A historic winter storm in Texas has left many without power, food, and fuel as power outages continue.
Owner Willie Fairley gave out thousands of free meals in Cedar Rapids following the derecho in August and hopes to continue that in Texas.
In a Facebook post, Fairley says he is planning to be on the road by Noon on Friday but is asking for help. He is looking for volunteers willing to be gone for at least a week to help pull the smokers. He also offered to cover gas and food if someone volunteered their RV.
Fairley's generosity landed him national recognition and an 'eat it forward' award from Discover, but he says giving back is what drives him.
"Something I love to do so you know I feel like I get my blessings from doing for others versus worrying about what I can do for myself so we can continue to take care of the public and the people who's in need," Fairley said.
