INDEPENDENCE, Iowa (KWWL) -- An Independence woman is facing several charges after police say she allegedly misappropriated more than $70,000 over a five-year period.
On Feb. 11, police arrested Maureen Kimmerle of Independence. They said she was the subject of an embezzlement investigation that started last fall.
Kimmerle allegedly misspent 'American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees' (AFSCME) Union funds while serving as a treasurer for the union, according to police.
She has been charged with ongoing criminal conduct, which is punishable by up to 25 years in prison. She is also facing charges for first-degree theft and first-degree fraudulent practices, which are both punishable by up to 10 years in prison.
