Peet Junior High School special education teacher wins ‘Tools for Schools’ award

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa (KWWL) - KWWL is kicking off the first day of February with a 'Tools for Schools' winner.

Brett Williams, a special education teacher at Peet Junior High School, has won this month's 'Tools for Schools' award.

With the pandemic forcing Williams to teach virtually, he has noticed many of his students yearn for social and emotional interaction that COVID-19 took away from them

Therefore, Williams has decided to invest in social and emotional online games to help them cope with these challenges.

"When I get kids online talking to them just knowing they want some interaction with other people or they just need some of that social emotional learning stuff," Williams said, "it's learning how to deal with the pandemic learning to deal with isolation things."

Williams hopes these online resources can help his student snot miss a beat when they choose to learn in-person again.

The 'Cedar Valley Tools For Schools' Program is a partnership between KWWL and Green State Credit Union.
