LINN COUNTY, Iowa (KWWL) -- On Tuesday, January 26, individuals 65 and older will be eligible for a COVID-19 vaccine in Linn County.
On Monday, MercyCare Clinics, UnityPoint Health Clinics and several independent health care providers are beginning to contact their primary care patients age 65 and older to provide an opportunity to make a vaccination appointment.
They are asking patients not to call their clinics requesting the vaccine or walk-in to clinics, which would make operations more difficult.
Currently, appointments are required and are anticipated to fill quickly because of the limited amount of the vaccine.
Linn County Public Health is asking the community to be patient and additional appointments will open as more vaccine becomes available.
Linn County Public Health will assist anyone age 65 and older who doesn't have a primary care provider with locating a vaccine provider. Those individuals should call (319) 892-6097 for assistance.
The rest of the state's counties are expected to begin Phase 1B of the vaccine rollout, which includes Iowans age 65 and older, on Feb. 1.
