Dominion Voting System sues Giuliani for $1.3 billion over lies about election fraud

(CNN) -- Vote auditing company Dominion Voting Systems is suing Rudy Giuliani for defamation.

Giuliani is former president Donald Trump's personal lawyer.

The lawsuit, filed in DC district court Monday morning, claims Giuliani pushed lies about election fraud on his podcast and during TV appearances.

Dominion is seeking $1.3 billion in damages.

Lawyers for Dominion wrote in the suit, "The hard to Dominion's business and reputation is unprecedented and irreparable because of how fervently millions of people believe it."

The lawsuit notes that while Giuliani spread falsehoods about Dominion being owned by Venezuelan communists and corruption the election, he did not make those claims in lawsuits he pushed on behalf of Trump.
