WATERLOO, Iowa (KWWL) -- Black Hawk County Conservation is announcing its first annual photography contest, which is only open to amateurs.

Photos must be original to the photographer and must be taken sometime between Jan. 1 and Oct. 15 of this year.

Participants must take their photos in parks and areas managed by Black Hawk County Conservation, including: Hickory Hills, Big Woods, Black Hawk, McFarlane and Hartman Reserve. You can view a full list of the parks in the county here.

The contest has four different categories, including:

  • Wild Life
  • Landscapes
  • Recreation
  • On the go (cell phone pictures only)

The winning photos will be enlarged, printed and then displayed in the Hartman Reserve Interp Building through the month of November.

After the show, the art will be given to the entrants. The 'best in show' photograph will be featured on the cover of the new Black Hawk County Parks Guide, which will be released next January.
