KWWL Follow-Up: Waterloo police chief not a finalist for job in Albuquerque

WATERLOO, Iowa (KWWL) - Waterloo Police Chief Joel Fitzgerald, Sr. will be staying put in Waterloo, at least for now. According to the Albuquerque Journal, Fitzgerald was not chosen to be among the final 3 candidates for the police chief position in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

The Journal reports 39 people applied to the position. Fitzgerald had made the cut into the top 25 candidates who were deemed "qualified," but the Journal reported the names of the top three candidates Wednesday, and Fitzgerald isn't one of them.

Fitzgerald started his job in Waterloo in June 2020. He was previously the police chief in Fort Worth, Texas for four years.

KWWL reported on December 28 that Fitzgerald has also applied to the chief position in Miami, Florida.
