WATERLOO, Iowa (KWWL) - With the recent holidays, many Waterloo residents have found the trash pickup schedule confusing.
After receiving multiple calls, the Waterloo Sanitation Department is trying to clear things up by getting rid of the old schedule and creating a new one moving forward.
The original schedule was color-coded to signal both yard waste days for curbside pick up, as well as the holidays for folks to know when the office is closed.
However, realizing the original schedule became confusing, the department decided to separate the schedules to make it easier to navigate.
Sanitation Director, Scott Brunson, said the schedules will apply to all zones in the city.
"We do have accessible options on the City of Waterloo's page where they can click on and find out what zone they're in and what their pick up day is," he said. "That's also on the sanitation page."
Knowing many people have missed their pick up days or have left their yard waste out for a while, Brunson hopes this change will make it easier.
"We're trying to clarify that so that we're not having to go back and run these routes over and over again in the same location," he said.
The new schedule also signals the months the sanitation department doesn't do yard waste curbside pick up because there was confusion with that as well.
The holiday schedules will be sent out with your water bill. If you have already received your bill, it will be attached to the next one.
When the snow starts to pile up, you need to have at least three feet of clearance around your garbage cans, or else it may not get picked up.
