Dogs rescued from apartment fire in Cedar Rapids

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (KWWL) — The Cedar Rapids Fire Department was called to an apartment building at the 1500 block of Oakland Rd. NE for smoke coming from one of apartments.

Fire crews found heavy smoke and some fire in the kitchen area. The fire was quickly under control and two dogs were rescued from the apartment.

Both dogs had to be put on oxygen and were revived. The dogs were cared for by animal control and their owner.

No injuries were reported and only one person later requested assistance from the Red Cross. The fire remains under investigation.

Residents were allowed back into the apartment complex after fire crews were done.
