(KWWL) — The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration said that the derecho from Aug. 10 produced $7.5 billion in damages, according to their data.
This make it one of the most costly storms in U.S. history since 1980, currently ranked at fourth place out of 126 severe storms listed.
The derecho was also ranked the second worst natural disaster in 2020 after Hurricane Laura, which hit Louisiana in August. The hurricane caused $14 billion in damages.
Iowa farmers have lost more than 550,000 acres of crops when the storm first hit, which has recently grown to 850,000 acres according to estimates last month.
