DIKE, Iowa (KWWL) - Authorities say six residents are displaced after a fire destroyed an apartment building in Dike.

Crews were called to an area near the 600 block of Main Street around noon on Friday.

The Grundy County Sheriff's Department says that there may be smoke damage in the surrounding area, including a lumber yard, apartment building and a bar. It is unknown if there is any water damage.

Authorities say an apartment tenant told a landlord the gas meter next to the building was on fire before it exploded.

Crews from Dike, Cedar Falls, Stout, and Reinbeck responded to battle the fire.
