Cedar Falls kindergarten teacher wins the ‘tools for schools’ award

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa (KWWL) - Another lucky eastern Iowa teacher has won this month's 'Tools for Schools' grant.

Stephanie Kane is a kindergarten teacher at Lincoln Elementary in Cedar Falls. For her class of fifteen, she would focus her grant money on emotional learning for her students

During times of uncertainty, Kane said understanding emotions and empathy has become crucial, especially for kids this age.

"There's been a huge push over the last two years in social and emotional learning in our country, in our city, in our district to help students really understand their emotions and know that they can control them and how to regulate them," Kane said.

The 'Cedar Valley Tools For Schools' Program is a partnership between KWWL and Green State Credit Union.
