Loras College temporarily moving classes online due to COVID-19 surge

DUBUQUE, Iowa (KWWL) -- Loras College is moving all of its undergraduate courses online until at least October 9.

This comes as the college, the City of Dubuque and Dubuque County have seen a rise in COVID-19 cases recently. The county's current 14-day positivity rate is 16.3%, the highest of any county in Eastern Iowa according to the state's website.

The county's 14-day positivity rate was as low as 7% at the beginning of September. The county reported 113 new cases on September 18 and 134 new cases on September 24.

Art Sunleaf, the college's Vice President for Student Development, says in addition to moving classes online, students are also discouraged from attending large social gatherings and crowded bars in an effort to contain COVID-19 cases on campus.
