EPWORTH (KWWL) -- Tommy DeSollar caught one score and nearly had another on a spectacular punt return to help lead Western Dubuque to a 28-9 win over Waverly-Shell Rock on Friday night.
DeSollar appeared to open the scoring on a 76-yard return in the first quarter, only to see it called back on a holding penalty. DeSollar still managed to score on the drive when Garrett Baumhover hit him on a short scoring strike for an early 7-0 lead. DeSollar finished with 117 receiving yards in the game.
Buamhover, the leading passer in class 3A, threw two more touchdown passes in the game, both to Dakota Lau. The junior quarterback finished with 262 passing yards and ran for another score in the second quarter.
Waverly-Shell Rock, meanwhile, didn't put anything on the scoreboard until the second half when Simon Ott hit a 26-yard field goal. Later, fullback McRae Haggerty busted through the line and rumbled 98 yards for the Go-Hawks only touchdown in the game.
