CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (KWWL) — The Cedar Rapids Police Department is reporting a stabbing incident that took place on September 16th at 12:41 p.m. at the 5500 block of 6th Street SW.
Officers were advised that a female victim had been stabbed and a male suspect tried to flee the scene. The suspect was being chased by other individuals.
CRPD officers arrived on scene and found a 34-year-old woman who had multiple stab wounds to their upper body. Officers administered emergency medical care and the victim was sent to a local hospital. The victim sustained non-life threatening injuries.
A 33-year-old male suspect was found as well and allegedly claimed that he and the woman were engaged in a domestic disturbance. He was sent to a local hospital for minor cuts and taken to the Linn County Jail.
The suspect was identified as Jayce William Baskerville. Baskerville was arrested for Violation of a No Contact Order and Assault Domestic Abuse with a Weapon Causing Injury.
After the preliminary investigation, the CRPD states the disturbance between the two appeared to have happened in an apartment at the 5500 block of 6th Street SW. Baskerville allegedly followed the female to the bus stop where the stabbing occurred.
