West Des Moines school goes online after 1/3 of staff quarantined

WEST DES MOINES, Iowa (KWWL) - Administrators in the West Des Moines Community School District say classes will be moved online this week at Crossroads Park Elementary because they do not have enough teachers to oversee in-person classes.

In a statement Friday, the district said more than 33% of staff at the school are in quarantine either for testing positive for the virus or coming into contact with someone who tested positive. The district says it decided, in collaboration with Polk County Public Health, to move classes online this Tuesday and Wednesday. There is no school Monday.

The district is applying for a waiver with the Iowa Department of Education to move classes online through Sept. 27.
