IOWA CITY, Iowa (KWWL) - The Iowa Department of Education has granted the Iowa City Community School District's request to continue with off-site learning into early October. The school board will vote on whether or not to accept it at an upcoming meeting on Tuesday.
The Department of Ed. granted ICCSD's waiver based on a 14-day COVID-19 positivity rate of 20.4%, according to a letter on the department's website. This waiver goes into effect when ICCSD's current waiver expires on Sept. 22.
Johnson County's positivity rate is dropping as new COVID-19 case numbers come back to earth after a huge spike in late August. Administrators will make a recommendation to the school board about next steps at a special meeting Tuesday at 5 p.m.
