CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (KWWL) — Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of Dubuque handed out about 9,000 boxes of fresh produce today in Cedar Rapids.
This was their third day of food distribution. In total, they have handed out 228,000 pounds of food. The event was held to provide help and create hope.
Megan Stammeyer, Public Relations Director, Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of Dubuque, said that the people are incredibly grateful.
"Obviously the need is huge, we are not asking for paperwork or any restrictions," Stammeyer said. "We are encouraging neighbors and others to maybe pick up something for their vulnerable neighbors that don't have a car or have other restrictions or barriers for themselves."
They have averaged around 100 volunteers a day. Monday was the last day of distribution, but they may do something more in the future
