UPDATE: Independence Fire Chief Richard Newton says there were no injuries during a house fire at a two-story home in Independence Sunday afternoon.

Crews were called to the 200 block of 3rd Street Northeast around 4 p.m. on Sunday and found smoke and flames coming from the rear of the house. The fire slowly spread to the front of the house, Chief Newton says due to the wind.

Three people were home at the time of the fire but all three were able to get out safely. Chief Newton says there's smoke or water damage to all of the house.
