WATERLOO, Iowa (KWWL/AP) -- A teenager in Waterloo has died after showing up at a hospital with a gunshot wound Police were called to a neighborhood Monday night where residents reported hearing gunshots and seeing someone on the ground in an alley.

The shooting happened about 10 p.m. Monday night in an alley in the 2800 block of East 4th st.

The victim's great-grandmother tells KWWL she was asleep and woke up to gunshots.

Police found numerous spent shell casings in the alley. One of the bullets went into a neighbor's house and into a child's bedroom.

Neighbors say the violence needs to stop and it needs to start in their own neighborhood.

"It is a problem, especially when you have young people killing young people," neighbor Joyce Wilder said. "We already have the pandemic going on. We don't need anymore deaths, we don't need anymore black on black crimes. This is horrible."

Police are not releasing the victim's name.

Family members tell KWWL that they don't know why the boy would have been out of the house at the time of the shooting.
